YOGA CLASS DESCRIPTIONS
All classes are Open-Level classes unless otherwise specified. Please check the printed schedule.
ASHTANGA VINYASA: This dynamic and faster placed flow will strengthen you physically and mentally as well as elevate your energy level. A typical class will consist of a warm up (Surya Namaskara A + B) followed by a dynamic sequence of standing poses, seated poses, and inversions, ending with the traditional Ashtanga closing series. Open-Level (unless other-wise specified)
BEGINNER YOGA: Discover how yoga can help you develop a healthy body and healthy mind. Enjoy a slow pace during the yoga postures, basic and simple pranayama (breathing technique), and an step-by-step instruction during the main poses. Tailored for beginner students but also good for seasoned practitioners who wish to enjoy a slow and gentle practice, or just to get back to some basics. These classes are not heated. (offered monthly)
GENTLE YOGA (*CHAIR YOGA OPTIONAL)
This class will offer a gentle yoga practice that focuses on maintaining mobility of the spine, strengthening the core musculature, improving balance, and increasing joint range-of-motion. Classes will include breathing exercises (pranayama), meditation, and safe, easy-to-follow yoga postures, some done either sitting in a chair or standing alongside a chair if needed, or on a yoga mat.
GENTLE YOGA: This gentle class helps you to build the foundations of your yoga practice, with a focus on proper alignment and cultivation of the mind/body connection. Moving at a slower pace allows you to explore each posture, to move with steady composure, to take the practice to your edge without sacrificing safety or joy. Develop strength, flexibility, balance, and tranquility in this slow flow class, accessible to all students. This class has the extra benefit of including restorative yoga postures to help you restore the body, mind, and spirit. Restorative yoga is a wonderful compliment to any level of practice. No experience in yoga is needed to join this class. All-level
HATHA YOGA: Open-level Hatha Yoga is a mixed level class for beginning and continuing students. The classes combine postures, sequences, breath awareness and relaxation. You will learn new postures and sequences and refine familiar ones.
HATHA VINYASA: Students of all level of physical fitness and yoga experience are welcome in this class. Everyone will be guided and supported. Beginners will work on developing body awareness, familiarity with yoga postures, pranayama (breath control) and meditation techniques. Intermediate and advanced students will be encouraged to deepen all aspects of their yoga practices. Using the breath as focal point, students will be guided through series of postures progressing from warm up and easier moves to more complex. You will build strength and stamina and leave a class feeling calm and invigorated. Open-Level (unless other-wise specified)
(SATSANG) MEDITATION & INSPIRATIONAL TALKS: Join us for this incredible one-hour spiritual talk and meditation on inspiring topics that change weekly. Leave feeling profoundly peaceful and deeply inspired every Tuesday night! All are welcome.
RESTORATIVE YOGA: Surrender into quiet, supported postures using bolsters and blankets. This class will help you to travel deep within yourself, restoring the body, mind, and spirit. Restorative yoga is a wonderful compliment to any level of practice. No experience in yoga is needed to join this class.
SIVANANDA YOGA: This is an open-level traditional, slow paced, meditative class that helps encourage proper breathing, flexibility, strength and vitality in the body while calming the mind. Class includes pranayama (breathing exercises), warm-ups including Sun Salutations (Surya Namaskar), 12 basic asanas (postures) and deep relaxation. The focus is on mastering the basic asanas from which variations are then added to further deepen the practice. The asanas follow an exact order that allows for the systematic movement of every major part of the body in a balanced way that enhances prana or life force energy. Additional variations may also be taught.
Open-Level
TEEN YOGA: Using yoga postures to build inner and outer strength and flexibility are the main focus of this class. Also included are partner and group poses and playful yoga games. Experience emotional balance through the physical and mental benefits of yoga by practicing breathing exercises, flowing sequences, balancing poses and deep relaxation while building a healthy relationship with your body. Positive self-awareness and esteem are encouraged. Class is 1 hour.
VINYASA YOGA: Vinyasa is characterized by flowing poses and sequences that are linked to the breath. This class is diverse and sequencing will vary with instructor philosophy. This is a heated class. Open-Level
